Here is a brief biography of Gerald Slater, and a short discription of his career in the arts.
Gerald Slater began painting portraits almost as soon as he could hold a brush. Through high school and college he did commissioned portraits, while studying and refining his painting technique.

He worked as a graphic artist and illustrator for many years, doing the occasional portrait along the way. About 12 years ago he began painting commissioned portraits full time, dedicating himself to this difficult art form, and gaining a reputation for excellance.

Mr. Slater's portrait of Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Michael P. Murphy hangs in the Patchogue Post Office (now renamed for Lt. Murphy) in New York. Large prints of the painting hang in various places dedicated to Lt. Murphy around the country, and a picture of the painting appears in the book "SEAL of Honor," a biography of Michael Murphy by Gary Williams.

The Tuskegee Airmen painting hangs in the museum at York College in Queens, New York.
